Working from home can be limiting. It is not like office setting where you have all the technical facilities to keep work – for lack of a better word – flowing. But the COVID 19 pandemic is keeping us even more grounded, and investing on a work from home set up becomes crucial to keep up with new normal situation.
And this is where Huawei MateBook D14 Notebook comes into play. Following the release of its predecessor the Huawei MateBook D15, Huawei rolled out another powerful mid-range AMD Ryzen 3700U processor running notebook. D14 indicates slightly smaller MateBook screen size variant, nevertheless body design pretty take its cur from the D15.
But note screen is edge to edge, none of spaces in between, giving you a full screen view from all sides. And that effect, which gives you that infite screen view that presents more space for apps and cinemascope feel, is what makes the MateBook D14 bigger than most other branded notebook in the market.
Sailing with AMD Ryzen 3700U processor makes this particular notebook a first pick for anyone looking for a notebook for multitasking. For one, for those unfamiliar with Ryzen, is designed to manage multiple live apps or softwares on your laptop. Managing means analyzing while securing your laptop against third party program intrusions like phising or virus breach from careless flahdrive deployment. On top of this working feature, AMD is known for keeping energy usage flawlessly low, allowing you to work for hours without needing socket charging.
Incidentally, Huawei MateBook D14 details with Type-C brick charger, which doubles as a phone charger for devices with Type-C charging ports. At which rate, with our week long charging trails, a single full charge could take about one hour – fast enough to keep you working mixing digital publication, on-line banking, browsing and managing live webinars either on Zoom, Google, FB Messenger or Viber.
Like most notebooks detailed for office or school work, Huawei MateBook D14 details with Windows 10 operating program. It is seeded with standard Microsoft computing programs (MS Word/ Excel/ Powerpoint / Outlook / One Note / One Drive). These programs require on-line activation, which means you have to pay for licenses for some of these programs to operate. Facebook and Messenger you have to upload from either browser or apps, which you need to download from a third party source not supported by Windows. But this is for security reasons, which you can support uploading anti-virus programs or lean on Windows – which is equally strong against digital on-line intrusion.
Apart from Windows provided security programs, Huawei similarly detialed this particular notebook with a PC Manager. Basically, it keeps track of your processor, your softwares and hard drive functions even while you sleep. It detects for any anomalies, breaches that alerts user real time. It can be used similarly to transfer files preferably from a Huawei mobile device to this notebook (and vice versa), de cluttering drives to keep processor running faster. PC Manager, which similarly collect data for analytical purposes, is a great option for multitasking. It requires program activation but taking this rhoute provides additional convenience for anyone expected to send or receive files between two or more connecting devices on a daily basis.
More battery life
Huawei MateBook D14 ships with bigger 56Wh rechargeable battey. It means more time working without plugging in. Big Tito’s initial test yield 11 hours from original one hour charging time. Initial tests with Spotify got us 18 hours streaming time. Bluetooth speakers connected ate up more batt time hitting 11 hours. Differentiating between notebook’s airplane mode and performance mode, batt time literally hit up between 9 to 10 hours, respectively. Not bad for a day long multitasking drive thorugh on social media, video conferencing, writing and video editing. The D1 charges with latest Type C brick charger, roughly one hour, with no heating. Thank to engine cooling system keeping D14 cool all the time.
Huawei MateBook D14 engages with a decent 512GB SSD storage. This is more than enough for internal storaging – keeping image, document or download files. Another option is cloud storage, which is basic to every Huawei mobile devices, you can access for a fee. I find this optional for anyone using multiple devices, allowing you to access file from any devices in a snap. Either storage option is data encryption protected for office or home based networking set up.
HD Cinema Screen/ Surround Theater
With more Filipinos taking their brand of (downloaded) entertainment from their wireless devices, Huawei MateBook D14 details with High Definition (HD), Radeon RX Vega 10 Graphics, and 8GB of RAM. Graphic spec can withstand gaming for less intensive interactive games like Mobile Legends. It is best for managing on-line conferences, social media and mobile apps detailed for financing like GCash, PayMaya or bank apps to keep track of savings or digital expenses.Another friendly screening feature is D14’s 180 degrees screen tilt. It is handy for hand held presentations. Filters can be set with HD screen. It protects eyes from excessive lighting.
Playing music (from Spotify) or videos (from YouTube) is a splendid experience with Huawei MateBook D14. It is designed with two interacting speakers, giving you that sublime digital theater surround feel. It adjusts video and sound quallity to nearest HD and Dolby Atmos surround sound format playable. It turns you cubicle into this mini surround sound theater while video is crisp clear playing from all screen ratio angles. It is a perfect design for table presentations or you can easy plug in a bluetooth brick speaker to heighten sound reach. It is an easy connection set up with any branded devices.
Working with Huawei Share
Huawei Share is an additional feature generic to Huawei devices – particularly the MateBook D14 notebook. Leaning on the wireless digital connector software NFC, whose button is located below main power switch button, offers a fast option to connect deivces, flash phone screen content on notebook’s screen. It lets you sync and manage messages from phone. It is a friendly shortcut to declutter internal storage or run quick program straight from your phone into a mini presentation. It is great for managing school or office files sent via email through your children’s mobile devices without plugging in or needing third party program to transfer attachment files. Feature works best on devices updated to EMUI 10.
Light, sleek and fast booting
When it comes to design Huawei tops the grid. Huawei MateBook D14 fancy’s with aluminum material body. It is what makes whole notebook light weight, less than kilo, making it easy to carry or transfer from work room to kitchen work station. Front and back cover details with clean steel finish that is smooth to skin touch. Despite D14’s thin feel the aluminum make for a sturdy body. Keypad details with wider chiclet keypad that is comfortable typing on, great for lengthy reports. Notebook’s size is notably 15.9mm, thin enough to fit bag. It weighs only 1.4kg, making it one of the lightest laptop you can or fast boot in less than five seconds.
What makes the Huawei MateBook D14 convenient is Cortana. The voice activated Windows programs can see you through booting notebook from scratch. I suggest keeping Cortana active with its suggestive and detailed guide to correctly boot your laptop in one piece. Windows set up details with classic tile design for app but you can veer from it putting your best used apps on screen. Windows setting provides for control to launch or manage printer, social media, messaging or file transfer. It includes general control for screen, apps and most importantly security setting to keep D14 constantly protected while you work from behind. The keypad light is gentle, making it easy to type fast while inside a low light studio. The bezels are slim with keypad getting more finger to elbow space for easy typing and screen navigation.
Selfie, webinar with a pop up camera
What makes the Huawei MateBook D14 stand out is the camera. It is been relocated between the F6 and F7 keys. It is a pop camera you can activate but it needs angle adjustment for classroom webinars. But the good part, since it is a hidden camera, it is generally kept off from prying third party spy softwares. It cannot be activated even when you pop camera, until you click camera app from screen. Huawei decently affixed notebook with vividly clear 1 megapixel Hight Definition (HD) front camera. Additional camera can be affixed, depending on your wenbinar requirements.
