PayMaya leads push for consumer safety and economic recovery through cashless payments

Digital financial services leader PayMaya is pushing for wider use of cashless payments across the country in support of the private sector-led ‘Ingat Angat Tayong Lahat’ campaign, which advocates for strict health and safety measures as businesses re-open to support the country’s economic recovery.

Through cashless and contactless payments whether online or in stores, PayMaya said consumers and businesses can help prevent the spread of the virus causing COVID-19 while at the same time supporting the recovery and growth of businesses in the New Normal.

Retail merchants, for example, have seen increasing preference for contactless payments over the past few months, with cashless payment volume processed by PayMaya in retail establishments across the country growing three-fold in September compared with the same period last year.

The number of unique merchants onboarded by PayMaya in September also grew by over 1400% year-on-year, signifying an exponential increase in preference of merchants to deploy cashless payment technologies such as PayMaya QR, PayMaya One terminals and PayMaya Checkout online payment gateway for card and e-wallet payments in their different channels.

Shifting businesses to digital, cashless

Some of the merchants utilizing PayMaya’s cashless payment solutions include brands that are also supporting the ‘Ingat Angat’ campaign, such as Megaworld, McDonald’s Philippines, Jollibee Foods Corporation, Goldilocks, Unilever, Petron, Shell, Robinsons Malls, SM Supermalls, Smart Communications, Angkas, and Food Panda, among others.

 

PayMaya also recently announced that it is providing up to P60 million worth of support through cashless payment tools, mentoring, extra income, and incentives as part of its “Sulong Negosyo” campaign. Through the initiative, PayMaya is helping micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises quickly migrate their businesses to digital and provide cashless payments as a way to pivot and recover from the current crisis.

 

Incentivizing cashless payments

To help promote the daily use of cashless payments among Filipinos, PayMaya has been incentivizing its account holders in the form of ‘Balik Bayad’ or cashback that they can instantly receive after paying using their accounts.

These include paying using PayMaya QR or Pay with PayMaya online, as well as bills payments, mobile prepaid load purchases, and gaming PIN top-ups, among others. Consumers can enjoy all these perks from paying with cashless by downloading the PayMaya app on their iOS or Android phones today.

Additionally, PayMaya will be using its various digital channels online and through the app to mount an extensive information campaign that will encourage safe transactions using cashless as Filipinos begin to purchase from business establishments once again.

 

Advocating in communities

To ensure that the objectives of the campaign are felt even in grassroots communities around the country, PayMaya is encouraging its more than 30,000 Smart Padala agents nationwide to help promote public health and safety measures in their respective sari-sari stores, remittance centers, and other establishments.

Serving as “Ingat Angat Ambassadors” in their respective communities, these Smart Padala agents are helping promote safety tips such as wearing face masks and face shields when going out and practicing physical distancing, on top of offering cashless and digital financial transactions such as remittances, bills payments, mobile prepaid load top-ups, and QR payments.

The “Ingat Angat Tayong Lahat campaign” is part of the private sector’s support for Taskforce T3 (Test, Trace, Treat), the multi-sector initiative put together in April 2020 to work closely with the Department of Health (DOH), the National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19, and the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to manage the outbreak of the pandemic in the country. With the reopening of the economy, the group is highlighting the importance of rebuilding consumer confidence with health and safety still a priority.
